Bruno Guimaraes has communicated to Newcastle United his desire to depart St James’ Park and join Arsenal. The Premier League champions are reportedly increasing their efforts to acquire the 28-year-old midfielder, indicating a willingness to offer a substantial amount for him. In June, Arsenal‘s verbal offer for Guimaraes was rejected by Newcastle.
Newcastle had previously stated they would not consider bids for Guimaraes, and there has been no direct contact between the clubs regarding his availability. The club maintains its position that he is not for sale. Guimaraes, who signed a five-year contract extension in October 2023, has two years remaining on his current deal. This agreement included a temporary release clause that expired in June 2024 without being activated.
According to reports, Guimaraes has not submitted a transfer request but has directly informed Newcastle that he would like to pursue an opportunity with Arsenal if an acceptable offer is made. His motivation is cited as footballing reasons rather than financial, despite being Newcastle‘s highest earner. He is said to believe that winning titles may not happen at Newcastle in the near future and wishes to be given the chance to join Arsenal.
The midfielder also wants to ensure that Newcastle receives a significant fee if he does leave. A figure around a high amount has been suggested as a point at which Newcastle would consider an offer. He was also part of the team that won the Carabao Cup in 2025. Following that victory, Guimaraes expressed his strong connection to the club, stating, "This is my second home. We are making history. Newcastle insists that Guimaraes is not for sale and they have no intention of allowing the Brazil international to leave. His presence is considered invaluable to the team, and his departure, particularly without any first-XI signings, would be seen as a major challenge for the club.
Guimaraes was part of Carlo Ancelotti‘s Brazil squad at this summer’s World Cup, starting every match before their elimination by Norway in the last-16, where he provided four assists.
