Guimaraes’ Future at Newcastle
Bruno Guimaraes, the Newcastle United midfielder, is reportedly not pushing for a move to Arsenal, despite interest from the Premier League club. Newcastle is said to value the Brazilian international at £80m. Head coach Eddie Howe has held positive discussions with Guimaraes, but could not guarantee his captain’s future at the club. Howe stated that he does not know what will happen with Guimaraes’ future, noting that such conversations are not part of his direct involvement.
Guimaraes recently returned from holiday after Brazil’s exit from the World Cup, where they were defeated by Norway in the last-16 stage. He is expected to join the squad for a pre-season training camp in Spain. Howe emphasised his desire for Guimaraes to remain with Newcastle, highlighting the player’s importance to the team. He described Guimaraes as an “unbelievable player and person” and expressed that everyone at the club wants him to stay.
Transfer Market Activity
Arsenal is reportedly preparing a £70m offer for Guimaraes, but Newcastle is keen to retain their key player. Comparisons have been drawn to Liverpool’s previous pursuit of Alexander Isak, who ultimately left Newcastle. However, Howe indicated there is “nothing to say Bruno won’t be back training with us.”
Newcastle’s midfield has seen changes recently, including the departure of Sandro Tonali, who transferred to Tottenham in a deal reportedly worth up to £100m. To bolster their squad, Newcastle has brought in young midfielders Sean Steur from Ajax and Aladji Bamba from Monaco. Brentford is considering a move for Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr. A reported move for Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye to Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League is not thought to be close.
