The 2026 Wimbledon Championships women’s singles final will be an all-Czech affair, with Linda Nosková and Karolína Muchová set to compete for the title. Both players secured their spots in the final after winning their respective semi-final matches today. This marks a significant moment for Czech tennis, as one of them will join a list of compatriots who have previously lifted the singles trophy at SW19.
Nosková, who is 21, defeated Marta Kostyuk with a score of 6-4, 6-4. Her victory was achieved in just one hour and 19 minutes. During her match, Nosková won an impressive 83 per cent of points at the net and converted half of her six break point opportunities against Kostyuk. This performance led her to her first Wimbledon final.
In the other semi-final, Muchová overcame Coco Gauff in a match that included a super tiebreak. The wins by both Muchová and Nosková mean this is the first time two women representing the same nation have reached a Grand Slam final since the 2017 U.S. Open, which featured Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys.
Nosková’s path to the final
Nosková’s journey to the final has been notable. She is the youngest first-time Wimbledon semi-finalist since Petra Kvitová reached the final four in 2010. Nosková has expressed her admiration for Kvitová, who she looked up to as a child, particularly remembering Kvitová’s two Wimbledon titles in 2011 and 2014. She hopes to follow in Kvitová’s footsteps by winning her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.
Before reaching the semi-finals, Nosková defeated Elise Mertens 6-3, 7-5 in the quarter-finals. Her recent form on grass courts has been strong, including winning a title in Berlin last month. She has won 10 of her last 11 WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz matches. While Kostyuk had previously beaten Nosková on clay in Madrid in April, this was their first encounter on grass.
Reflecting on her semi-final win, Nosková stated that a Grand Slam semi-final is never easy, regardless of the opponent or score. She focused on her own game and patience to secure the win. She also mentioned that she wasn’t a keen tennis watcher as a child, but Petra Kvitová’s Wimbledon victory helped her discover the sport.
Anticipation for the all-Czech final
The upcoming final will feature two players making their debut in a Wimbledon final. Nosková, at 21, becomes the youngest finalist since Jelena Ostapenko in 2018. Both players are expected to manage any nerves and deliver the high-quality tennis they have displayed throughout the tournament.
Nosková and Muchová are well-acquainted, having even practised together the night before their semi-final matches to familiarise themselves with Centre Court, as it was their first time playing there. Nosková described Muchová as a great fighter, an incredible player, and a good person, expressing her happiness to play her first final against her compatriot.
Nosková also shared her superstitious routines, which she plans to maintain for the final. These include numerous daily behaviours, such as using the same routines in the morning, having the same lunch, and using the same bathroom and sink. The women’s singles final is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

The Czech Republic has a strong history in women’s tennis, with players like Martina Navratilova, Jana Novotna, Petra Kvitová, Marketa Vondrousova, and Barbora Krejčíková having achieved success at Wimbledon. This final guarantees another Czech champion, adding to the nation’s legacy in the sport. Marta Kostyuk, despite her loss, concluded her Wimbledon campaign with applause from the crowd.
