Barcelona’s Reported Interest in Kane
FC Barcelona has reportedly re-engaged in discussions regarding a potential transfer for Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, according to recent reports. The Catalan club is said to have initiated contact with Kane’s representatives to explore the possibility of him joining the team. This renewed interest comes as Kane continues his participation in the World Cup 2026 with England.
Sources indicate that Barcelona reached out to Kane’s camp to ascertain his willingness to move from the Allianz Arena to the Spotify Camp Nou. While initial responses from Kane’s representatives reportedly indicated a lack of interest, Barcelona is said to have agreed to revisit the situation once Kane’s involvement in the World Cup concludes.
Kane, who is currently 32 years old, is focused on England’s progression through the knockout stages of the tournament in North America. He scored three goals for his country during the group stage, including a brace against Croatia in a 4-2 victory and another goal against Panama. England is set to face DR Congo in the last 32, with potential future matches against the winner of Ecuador and Mexico, and possible quarter-final and semi-final encounters with Brazil and Argentina, respectively.
Contract Situation and Club Strategy
Kane’s contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire in 2027, meaning he will enter the final 12 months of his deal this week. While Kane is reportedly happy in Bavaria and wishes to extend his contract until 2030, Bayern is said to prefer a two-year extension. This contractual situation could potentially allow Barcelona to acquire Kane for a reduced fee, rather than Bayern losing him as a free agent in 2027.
Barcelona’s strategy with Kane is compared to their successful acquisition of Robert Lewandowski in 2022. At the time, Lewandowski was nearing his 34th birthday when Barcelona spent $57 million (€50 million) to sign him. Despite his age, Lewandowski’s professionalism and physical condition allowed him to maintain top goalscoring form, leading to 120 goals in 193 appearances and three La Liga titles before his departure as a free agent on June 30.
Kane’s profile as a prolific goalscorer with strong link-up play and passing abilities is seen as a good fit for Barcelona, potentially enhancing the performance of players like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. However, reports also indicate that Barcelona has not yet submitted a firm offer for Kane to either his representatives or Bayern.
The club’s primary focus remains on Julian Alvarez, although securing a deal for him is considered challenging due to Atletico Madrid’s reluctance to sell, especially to a rival. Alvarez has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with Barcelona, but his reported price tag of around $175 million, influenced by a bid from Real Madrid, presents a significant obstacle. Barcelona is reportedly prepared to pursue Kane aggressively if there is any indication of his interest in a move to the Spotify Camp Nou this summer.

Kane’s club situation is expected to be clarified after England’s campaign in the FIFA World Cup concludes.
